Prostate

Most common malignant tu and the 2nd most common cause of cancer-related mortality in men. 70% occur in the Peripheral zone, 20% in the Transitional zone in the periurethral area (BPH also here) and 5% in the Central zone. Primary role of US is to guide prostate biopsy. 70% of prostate ca are hypoechoic, rest hyper or mixed. Nodule or infiltrative.


DDx: Prostate hypoechoic nodule:

Prostatitis, Atrophy, Fibrosis, Infarct, BPH


DDx: Cysts near the midline:

Utricle cysts, Mullerian duct cysts, Ejaculatory duct cysts, Retention cysts
